Alternus Energy Group PLC (NOTC:ALT) named industry veteran Gary Swan as its chief technical officer, as the fast-growing independent power producer expands its footprint across Europe.

“Swan will join the executive management team filling a critical and strategic role for the business in supporting its goal of becoming one of the largest pan-European solar operators by 2030,” said the company.

Swan is an experienced renewables senior manager and has been working in the international power and construction sectors for over 20 years, in the areas of design, construction, operation and the sale of renewable energy assets across Europe, Africa, North and South America.

Swan was the acting Technical Director at BioTherm Energy Pty, where since 2018, he has been responsible for the construction of wind and solar PV projects totalling 284 MWp. He has previously held senior positions in Actis and Mainstream Renewable Power, leading the construction of 12 wind and solar PV projects totalling 994 MWp.

“I am very pleased to have Gary join our team at Alternus. He has the right combination of industry expertise, personal traits and business experience at senior levels to take on this challenging role,” said Alternus CEO Vincent Browne. “He will play a pivotal role in the delivery of our current 1.2 GWp contracted pipeline that, when completed, will increase our power capacity tenfold by 2023.”

Browne noted that as Alternus emerges as a market leader in European solar and renewables, the firm needs to expand its expertise to support its growth plans and “Gary is the perfect choice to lead that activity going forward.”

Swan starts in the new position on May 4, 2021.

“I am very pleased to be part of this exciting adventure with Alternus. Having worked in the renewables industry for almost 10 years, I am confident that solar power will continue to be a fundamental factor in the transition from fossil fuel to green energy, and Alternus has a unique position and an important role to play in that regard,” said Swan.

Alternus currently has a portfolio of 39 owned or contracted parks in Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Romania and Poland, in excess of 140 MWp capacity.
